Gifted & Talented

G&T has been running for four years. It is open to KS2 children. In the past, it has worked on poetry and short story competitions and had many items published. During the last year, we worked on an ICT project that was to be shown to other teachers to show how ICT and video could be used in the day-to-day classroom.

Mrs Dagnall was asked by STFC to create challenges with the G&T group using Probots, Beebots and Roamers. We were given a Mac, tripod and some helpful advice. Then we set off; Rhominy and Rebekah set out the challenges, Tess and Sophie got busy with the tripod and Shefali started fiddling with the Mac. Within a month we had a full scale production in front of us! It was very succesful and Mrs Dagnall said that it inspired many other teachers and we were very proud of it.

Presently, we are working on really hard maths problems for Yr 6 students. Examples coming soon!

In the middle of our maths problems we have been given three sections of the 'blue wall' where we have to make temporary drawings and paint them onto our wall. Rebekah is thinking of doing a Billy Elliot in the middle section, holding a pencil in each hand whilst Rhominy & Shefali are musing about doing normal starjumps holding books & paintbrushes. We would be grateful to have any paint that we could use.

Rebekah says:

The wall should be bright and colourful, we will all have fun painting it together! The rest of the school will be given panals shortly...paint contributions welcome!

Here are our thoughts about G&T

My thoughts about G&T by Rebekah

I love G&T because our Tuesday afternoon sessions are more like adventures where we set out on missions like in an Indiana Jones movie, you never know where we're going to end up! Over the past school year we have successfully created a movie, starring a handful of year 5/2s, came 6th out of 12 in a contest and produced a number of other crafty tasks. Although G&T is made to try our brains I think that our club is more for fun and it helps us get out ofout door P.E in the freezing cold! Now we're working on a school memorabilia book to show visiters how the school was before our extension is going to be built. We started by reflecting on our favourite spots that are soon to disappear. We also intend to interview some teachers on how they feel about the changes and what they hope for the future.

My thoughts about G&T by Rhominy

I love G&T because our sessions are more like missions than work; a bit like entering another world. One challenge we did was when Mrs Dagnall asked the G&T group to create an ICT project for yr5 and yr2. We had to set some challenges for two year groups using Probots, Beebots, Roamers and Lego robots. Selected children were asked questions, made to knock down Lego bricks with their robots and also complete the tasks in a set time limit. It was a lot of fun and I got to use equipment I would never have been allowed to just have a bit and a play around with. We are now focusing on a memorabilia book about our school before it started to get new buildings and our favourite places beginning to get demlished. G&T is the best thing you could possibly ever be part of.

IT'S AWESOME!

My thoughts about G&T by Shefali

G&T is a fun, cool, club for girls only-not! (Well it is just for now but we are soon getting new people to be tested for their abilities) I think that we have the time of our lives laughing, giggling and sometimes getting work done. G&T has to be the best club in the world.
