Felting Workshop
A group called TWIGS came to our class to help us to make felt. Some very lovely ladies did all the hard work of getting the equipment ready. They put out towels and bubble wrap on to each table.
Pholida (from TWIGS) gave us a talk about wool and the history of felt making and then we all got to work!
We were given some merino wool which we had to pull apart in to smaller pieces and put a layer going horizontally to make a rectangle.
We chose another colour and pulled apart the wool into smaller pieces and laid this in strips vertically.
We then chose a third colour (with some sparkly bits in) and in the same way we put this horizontally.
A piece of netting was put on top and very hot water was poured on to it, quickly followed by rubbing soap (in the shape of a heart) across the netting.
We rubbed the soap on top of the netting and made lots of soap bubbles.
When our arms were very tired, we rubbed some more until the wool had bonded together to make felt.
We washed the felt in cold water and left it to dry.
We cut our felt into a dragons tooth or scale to make a necklace and with the rest of the felt a dragon was made.
Soon we will put a photo here of our felt dragon that was made from all our pieces of felt.
