All about Cherry Tree Class

Welcome to the Cherry Tree class page.  My name is Mrs Blewett and I am the class teacher on  Monday to Thursday.  Mrs Edmonds is the class teacher every Friday.   Mrs Wardop is the Learning support assistant in she is in class all week!   We are also lucky to have Mrs Haywood, Miss Bailey and Mrs Webb in class helping with specific children.

We are super proud of how each and every child has settled in to year 1 during the first term.  We are always showing positive Westlea behaviours including magnificent manners and lovely listening.

We understand that children have different learning styles and encourage learning in a variety of ways.  We are a class family and always encourage positive qualities including kindness and consideration towards others and ourselves.

Reading and phonics.

We are currently taking small steps to promoting independence and responsibility with our own learning and self care.  We encourage the children to have a go even if we find something tricky as making mistakes is how we learn.

We are having a big focus on phonics and developing early reading skills.  Supporting your child with home reading is invaluable! You should be aiming to read at least 5 times a week.  Remember to record it in your reading record.  We count up the number of reads every term and the children will receive a certificate.

Homework

During Term 2 we will be sending home pick and mix homework activities.  You will have the chance to choose which homework activity to complete each week.  You will receive points for each piece of homework you complete.
