Bob Barrett - Chairman of Governors
I am a Governor appointed by the Link Collaborative Trust, the Chair of the Staffing Committee and the Vice Chair of the Premises Committee. My profession is a Facilities, Health & Safety and Events Manager and I work on various projects in Swindon. I am extremely privileged to be a Governor of Westlea Primary School
I started at Westlea in 2006 as a TA and MDSA and gained my HLTA status in 2011. I also taught KS1&2 Swimming and PE. In 2013 just before we converted to Academy status I moved into the office to support the Bursar, responsible for staffing, pupils and data. In 2016 I became the Office Manager and then in May 2019, due to the Bursar leaving, I took on the finance role and I am really enjoying my new challenge. As Mrs Sumner’s TA back in 2010-2013 it is lovely to be back working with her again in our new roles! I am also Staff Governor.
Sarah Sumner - Headteacher
Previously, I was the Acting Headteacher and have now taken on the permanent role. I have been the SRP Governor since September 2016, due to my former roles as the Deputy Headteacher and the SRP Lead. I teach in Reception on a Friday, but am always keen to pop in and teach lessons across the school.
I run my family owned business in Rodbourne Road, and am a ward Councillor for Swindon Borough Council. I am proud and honoured to be a Governor at Westlea Primary School where currently I have two children attending. I will be working with my colleagues and the teachers to ensure Westlea is recognised as the best primary educational institute.
I work and have a degree in early years. I am the deputy manager of Bramble House Nursery. I have a daughter who attends Westlea Primary School and is part of the SRP. I became a Parent Governor in 2016. I am the Vice Chair of Governors and I am also a member of the curriculum and staffing committees.
I have been a Clerk since 2008 and serve several Schools in Swindon, Gloucestershire and Reading. My role is to provide an administrative resource for all Governors and to ensure the smooth running of its functions, processes and meetings.
Heather Large - Clerk
Louise Edmonds - Deputy Headteacher
Louise is a very experienced and talented teacher. Since she started teaching at Westlea in 2003, Louise has raised the profile of language across the school and is currently the English Co-ordinator, along with leading the SRP and being the Deputy Headteacher.
I work for a local Housing Association as their Head of Reward and People Operations, I have a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management and have recently trained as a restorative justice facilitator and Mental Health First Aider.
I am a Co-opted Governor and have 2 sons, 1 of which attends Westlea Primary School.
Currently, I work for the worlds largest building society and bring 30 years of corporate, social purpose, financial and transformation experience. Having always worked in the financial sector.
I have a passion for achieving the right outcome. Often you will find me running polling stations and election duties.
Zappa lived in Germany for 43 years and then moved to Swindon. She has 2 children and has been a parent helper since 2017. In 2019, Zappa was asked to consider applying to be a Parent Governor because she had shown an ongoing commitment to the school. In addition to being a proactive Governor, Zappa has transformed the school library.
